ONE FOR THE ROAD — Live in Staines

ONE FOR THE ROAD are a well respected local Americana band (Country Rock and Blues ) who play their own highly original songs alongside fresh covers of songs by artists of the caliber of Tom Petty, Steve Earle, The Traveling Wilburys, Bob Dylan, Old Crow Medicine Show, JJ Cale etc.

We saw them play their live show at the super Staines Music Venue – the Riverside Club, last week.

Keith Beasley vocals - "the right kind of husky/smoky ..."
Keith Beasley vocals – “the right kind of husky/smoky …”

Things were dark and murky with the ace cover of Jace Everett’s Bad Things” ( the theme from the HBO series True Blood) which had plenty of strangely interwoven and eerily evocative violin-play and a lot of early twang. The song was filled with sweaty, humid atmosphere.

Handle with Care” — the Traveling Wilburys song from 1988 — demonstrated the band’s skilled and assured interaction with each other… all the band (for example) have to play the parts originally laid down by Harrison , Lynne, Orbison, Petty, and Dylan. It’s a bit of an ask. To be sure. Yet the lads accomplished it successfully. Keith’s voice was the right kind of husky/smoky on this number (more Dylan than Orbison, though) — but this suited the song well.

Keith told us that the band would be incorporating some Blackberry Smoke into their set. The Southern Rock melodies fitted well in the general atmosphere and the structure of the show. Other favorites included the classic Old Crow Medicine Show & Bob Dylan’s number “Wagon Wheel” (also a Darius Rucker hit in 2013.)

The other ONE FOR THE ROAD moon-shining staple “Copperhead Road” ( Steve Earle ) got folks up-and-dancing in the Riverside Club.

This was a glorious show … it was as if we had turned off of Route 66 and headed along a dusty old track to discover Old Doc’s Little Grill. Where we fortunately found a talented group of guys who love to play together … rocking a bit harder than a jug-band, but keeping
intact the tradition and the craftsmanship.

Superb!

Barley Mow
Shepperton

Micky Kemp writes the songs, plays rythmn geetar and sings,

His devastating good looks and charm have made him a big hit with the over 70’s and under 5’s, it seems to have failed miserably on all points between.

He is ably assisted by One of the UK’S great guitarists, Ex Ian Hunter etc etc Darrell Bath. Darrell sings a bit too and plays lead guitar, a master of understated playing and tone perfection, Dazza loves playing guitar, drinking and british sitcoms, he can be found most evenings watching George and Mildred.

Prepare to ‘Glam’ Up at Windsor!

Glamsters at Windsor

The Glamsters
Sep 20 2008      8:00P The Ticket Hall     Windsor

We Party like it’s 1973!

The Glamsters are the ultimate 70’s Glam Rock tribute band, unlike many
tribute acts, they encompass the whole genre of the 70’s Glam Rock era,
rather than concentrating on replicating a single act. Each member
models themselves on original icons of the Glam era. Rufus is the
ultimate ‘rock god’ front man, Jonny – a legend of The Glitterband,
Pussie – KISS kitten, Jimmy – the SWEET sensation, and Donny – ‘sex on
legs’ glam guitar hero. The Glamsters have been constantly working
since 1996, concentrating on Corporate Events as well asprivate
parties, festivals and good old pub gigs. When asked Rufus often says
‘we’ve never had a bad gig, people always remember the 70’s and the
great times they had, we just take them back to those fun times. We are
the spirit of the 70’s’

RUFUS FELTZ – Vocals… JONNY TEMPO – Drums… DONNY HARVEY OSWALD –
Guitar… JIMMY RIDDLE – Bass… PUSSIE GALAM – Vocals/Sax.

Rik Martin

Rik Martin Band Sep 20 008      9:00P THE BARLEY MOW

The Rik Martin Band is based in Surrey
& has been regularly gigging around south London since being
put together in sept 05. The band was formed after a meeting with a
good lookin’ drummer girl by the name of Helen Watt (now Helen Martin)
at Robin Bibi’s blues jam at the Grey Horse, Kingston on Thames. Bass
duties are now taken care of by none other than “BIG” Barry Pethers of
Trafficker fame. We have also recently had the pleasure of occasionally
expanding the band with the talents of Plateman’s Ross Ewart. Ross is
without doubt one of the most talented guitarists I have heard
& had the priveledge to play music with, watch out!

The Band always plays a dynamic energy packed set of both covers
& original material giving the audience a truly memorable
experience of our brand of blues & boogie.

Hope y’all like…
