Fun New Video by Local Firefighters — with Fire Safety Messages

A group of local Berkshire RBFRS staff and firefighters  have put their musical skills to good use by releasing a song called “You Can’t Stop the Fire” which is a clever parody of Bruce Springsteen’sDancing in the Dark”.

Staff from across the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service have made a music video…

The key aim of the song is to get fire safety advice out to people in a slightly different way.

The team — led by the inextinguishable rogue Keith Beasley [the lead singer of the Country Rock and Blues band “One For the Road” ] is brought to life with an accompanying video [watch below.]

Staff from across the organisation were involved in the project, including crews from Maidenhead, Whitley Wood and non-operational colleagues based at headquarters.

When they’re ready, here’s some ideas for their next song:

* Burning Down the House — Talking Heads

* Run the Engines Up High — Roy Orbison

* Playing With Fire — Rolling Stones

* Pound the Alarm — Nicki Minaj

* Holy Smoke — Iron Maiden

* Firestarter — The Prodigy

Please watch and share their super video below and consider making a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity —which provides life enhancing services to the fire and rescue community…

Land of Cain

Land of Cain is a superb four piece rock/metal outfit from West London. Featuring astonishing guitar work, a pounding rhythm section, progressive strains and thought provoking lyrics the band are becoming a force to be reckoned with on the local  hard rock scene.

The band started life as “One Bitter Pill” in 2004, with Grant Chambers and Aaron Waddingham in the original line-up. In 2007, Grant and Aaron decided to take the band in a darker and heavier direction, and with the addition of Spencer Dargue on Drums and Chris Jordan on Bass, the band began writing the new material which would later evolve into the songs for their first album “Collapse the Control”.

News from The Bridges – December 2009

Loaded Dice

Another year over …. and it’s goodbye to old friends … ‘Loaded Dice’ the Shepperton band has decided to call it a day and to concentrate on academic studies and some solo projects. The ‘Best Live and Unsigned Band’ winners have issued a statement: “After nearly 6 years of playing together we have decided to take a break to concentrate on other projects and boring things such as uni. We want to say thank you so much for making our time together so special and memorable for us we will truly never forget the wonderful memories. Who knows we may be back sooner than we think but for now this is goodbye. In particular we would like to thank our friends and family for all their support you know who you are and we are very grateful.”

Heavy metal covers band ‘Netherworld’ has also hit rough waters. The sensational guitars of Jason Stretch and the nimble bass play of ‘smiffy’ will not be wasted though – the boys have started up a new project titled ‘Bad Penny’. They are joined by Rob Owens, “The Mighty Mammal” from our local circuit favourites ‘Rough Justice’ who will provide the power-house percussion. Look out for ‘Bad Penny’ at a venue near you in the New Year and check them out on: http://www.myspace.com/badpennylive.   The new band will be playing at Ye Old Swan Inn, Burnham on Jan 16th and The Royal Oak, West Molesy on Jan 29th.

Doug Lip

Finally, we have to say goodbye to the incarnation that was ‘Blue Fuses’ – a favourite local ‘hard rock’ outfit famous for their Pink Floyd and AC/DC numbers that had been playing together for 15 years.  Guitarist Doug Lip and drummer Just Will are to soldier on without the talented vocalist and bassman Noel Jones who has decided to take a break from gigging. We wish him well. A new band is expected, it will probably be re branded as ‘Fused’,  and rehearsals have already started with a newly recruited bassman, Simon.

Lady and the Lost Boys

Lady and the Lost Boys Nov 28,  The Old Fire Station, Windsor

Playing music from the Berkshire school of damp labradors, green wellies, moist Edinburgh woollens and  ‘Mummy Knows Best ’ attitudes, this band played a short but sweet set at the Firestation Arts Centre, Windsor on Sat 28t November.

The smallish crowd sat in patient lines, cross-legged on the wooden floor, humble like children in the school end-of-term concert.

Lady and the Lost Boys are a female lead five-piece band with chunky bass guitar, tantalizing percussion, emotive keyboards and a multi-talented muso who bounces between guitar, keys and even supplemental percussion, providing layers of texture as each song unfolds.

The introspective topics of the songs are based upon personal experiences and transparent memories – coming largely from a female perspective. Sipping a coffee in the breaks, petite dark haired vocalist Annabel Jones sings the Legoland, Camberwick Green, Technicolor songs from the Lady and the Lost Boys song-book.  Her delivery reminds me of ‘Alanis Morissette’ and to a lesser extent,  ‘Elizabeth Fraser’ (not so ethereal) and her voice is airy, high register and distinct enough to cut above the harmonic texture of music. Some of the songs ended with melodramatic yet creative ‘shoe-gaze’ blended sounds – others ended on a hand-clap or a jingle.

A few pared down guitar riffs are well hidden and tend to illuminate rather than detract from the amorphous sounds and add drama and insistence when required. The experience is fascinating and calming reminding me a lot of ‘Alison’s Halo’.

One of my favourites was the bass heavy (bass by Robin Pearson) song ‘That’s OK’. This is a song rippling with action, combining integrated piano tinkling and rat-a-tat percussion with honey sweet lyrical content delivered in a breathy, whisper-in-your ear style. The clappy and trilling chorus was nod-headingly joyful and the extraordinarily well-behaved and obviously well educated audience showed their appreciation with understated murmuring claps. Gently unfolding lyrics such as  “How many gold coins should I put aside before I’m out of debt in your eyes . . . “ demonstrate the band’s ambitions as poetic quality shoegazers.

This is a band for a damp autumn evening by the open-fire, or to listen to on your Ipod as you take your golden retriever for a walk down the leaf-fall winter lanes.  Thoroughly recommended.

w/ Lemonshaft

Even if our zeitgeist (spirit of this age) yokes us away from this inexplicable xenophobia and withdrawal from various prejudices; the undefined beauty of this theoretical Acousto alt.ectronika band is that they subsume delicicious sounds in their rarefied qualitative productions openly, but not nihilistically, as a motif (laconic or otherwise) kinetically determined judiciously inward – yet holistically grafted in a frantic effort towards a dynamic and a cosmically broadened anxiety.

The last time AD PONTES saw this young band at The Hob, Staines we described the sound as ” Refreshingly effervescent cherry-pop fizz for a (spring) day…”

This band got to the UK final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest a few years back. Currently, the lads are teetering on the very edge of ‘stadium’ success having won the title of the “Best UK live and unsigned band”. We wish them well. They are BIG local talents and you should get up to the HOB and support them…

DEMURE

Danny Roulette will be playing with the ever popular DEMURE. See this band now- they have just released their EP and are starting to grow is stature and success. The band plays Alt- Rock in the conventional sense but with overtures towards noise rock, especially in the way that the percussion and the bass are given the freedom to spread out their wings and have dissonant aural adventures of their own, but framed within the main architecture of each song.

The last time ADPONTES saw DEMURE we said that they reminded us of ‘Sonic Youth’ or ‘Butthole Surfers’. To check out the full ADPONTES review click here
