w/ Lemonshaft

Even if our zeitgeist (spirit of this age) yokes us away from this inexplicable xenophobia and withdrawal from various prejudices; the undefined beauty of this theoretical Acousto alt.ectronika band is that they subsume delicicious sounds in their rarefied qualitative productions openly, but not nihilistically, as a motif (laconic or otherwise) kinetically determined judiciously inward – yet holistically grafted in a frantic effort towards a dynamic and a cosmically broadened anxiety.

The Raging Horns (oooh matron!) is a  fantastic six-piece horn section, four great singers and a magnificent rhythm section, playing classic soul, funk and pop covers with a raw energy guaranteed to get everyone up on their feet. For over a decade, The Raging Horns have brought the house down at weddings, parties, special events and corporate functions right across the UK. The band’s mix of enthusiasm, youth and professionalism continues to leave audiences pounding their feet and screaming for more.

Here is their Funk Manifesto:

What We Do
It’s simple – we entertain, and we’re very, very good at it.
There’s really nothing quite like having brilliant musicians on stage playing songs you somehow know every single word to and we do this with an energy and style that’ll leave you breathless.

Why?
Because we love doing it. For us, nothing matches the excitement of having an audience in the palm of our hands – the sheer thrill of performing live is what we enjoy and what we’re all about.

Who We Are
We’ve been performing right across the UK for over a decade and having started young, have established a unique mix of youth and experience.
Great musical skill combined with varied backgrounds in professional careers leave us with all the right tools to deliver an evening to remember.

What We Play
Classic soul, funk and pop are what we love and that’s what we play. From Tom Jones to Robbie Williams, there’s genuinely something for everyone.

The Brainchilds ecstatic reception @ The Cornbury Music Festival this year (Beverley Knight, Toots & The Matals, Paul Simon) has led to an invitation for them to return on the main stage next year. The Festival Director said they were one of the best bands he had seen for many years with disparate elements akin to the Small Faces, Tom Petty & The Blockheads  but overall totally original.

The Hairy Bikers, Si King & Dave Meyers have asked them to headline some special dates in the new year and hope to use them as their surprise house band on some of their forthcoming new TV series in 2009.

The last time AD PONTES saw this young band at The Hob, Staines we described the sound as ” Refreshingly effervescent cherry-pop fizz for a (spring) day…”

This band got to the UK final of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest a few years back. Currently, the lads are teetering on the very edge of ‘stadium’ success having won the title of the “Best UK live and unsigned band”. We wish them well. They are BIG local talents and you should get up to the HOB and support them…

Danny Roulette will be playing with the ever popular DEMURE. See this band now- they have just released their EP and are starting to grow is stature and success. The band plays Alt- Rock in the conventional sense but with overtures towards noise rock, especially in the way that the percussion and the bass are given the freedom to spread out their wings and have dissonant aural adventures of their own, but framed within the main architecture of each song.

The last time ADPONTES saw DEMURE we said that they reminded us of ‘Sonic Youth’ or ‘Butthole Surfers’. To check out the full ADPONTES review click here

Riff Raff - Windsor

Riff Raff
Mar 27 2009
Old Ticket Hall

Classic Rock is the best music on the planet.  Period.

RIFF RAFF show it due respect with a no-nonsense delivery that tells it like it is – straight ahead rock from the classic power trio format, superbly played. They pay tribute to (but don’t copy) some of the best known (and some less obvious) rock tunes. With former pro credentials and years of experience working throughout Europe and elsewhere, in diverse acts, RIFF RAFF really know what they are doing – telling the story of rock, from its sixties beginnings, through the “classic” glory years, and up to the nineties.

If you enjoy Led Zeppelin, Free, Wishbone Ash, Cream and their contemporaries, you’re going to love RIFF RAFF.

Melodic Indie Pop- Live in Staines

Audio Video Disco at Staines

Audio Video Disco
Mar 29 2009
Hobgoblin
Staines

Audio.Video.Disco. are a new breath of fresh air to the indie, pop genre, not afraid of writing catchy melodies and annoyingly difficult to pigeon-hole, they are a cut-above the norm.

Formed mid-way through 2007 when duo Matt O’Daly and Richard Berkshire moved away from their acoustic roots and decided to start a proper band. In stepped Adam Linton (bass) and Tom Smith (drums). The line-up was complete.

Now having already played alongside Alphabeat, a set at the illustrious Clapham Grand and a headline show at the Astoria 2, this band have already attracted the attention of producer/engineer Phil English. The band recorded their current EP at
Phil’s Alexander Sound Studio in Milton Keynes.

Their EP launch was a huge sell out success and the band sold more tickets than when Hard-Fi played the same venue. Now with a solid fan base built up over the past year the band are set to make some serious waves amongst the current crop of bands coming out of the West-London area.

With THE DAQUIRIS

Albany Down can be counted on for pleasure and honest to goodness fun. Here is what ADPONTES had to say about this great band last time they came into town:

The sound of Albany Down is stripped-down-to-the-waist no nonsense rhythm and blues 70’s inspired Brit rock ( the feel of early ‘Free‘ or ‘John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers‘) but with a bit of jazz-funk to mix it up a little…very fine and accomplished performance…insistent guitar hooks, stripped down licks and rattling good-time rock…

Classic Soul Sounds -  Live at Ascot

Soul Disciples at Ascot

Soul Disciples
Mar 21 2009
Jagz
Ascot

West London’s Soul Disciples came together late in 2005 with the express wish of bringing the classic soul sounds of the 60’s & 70’s to the dance floors of Britain.

Dismayed at the disservice these great tunes are being paid by many covers bands, we have resolved to make our interpretations as faithful to
the spirit of the originals as possible.

The soulful voice of Miss Clare “Bubbles” Moloney combined with the authentic soul sound of the SD band has to be witnessed to be believed.

The Soul Disciples constantly strive to instill their performances with the spirit and skill which made soul music of the 60’s & 70’s so exciting.

The SD’s have found themselves in the enviable position of having an 8-piece line-up which combines experience, virtuosity, personality & good looks …
All wrapped up with a shared love of Classic Motown, Atlantic, Stax & Northern Soul.

Fresh NEW blues & Heavy Rock – Live Twickenham

Four Wheel Drive at Twickenham

Four Wheel Drive

Twickenham

Four Wheel Drive is a band that exists to play live. They deliver what can only be described as a relentless onslaught of good time, balls out Rock ‘N’ Roll. Ben Austwick and Paddy Achtelik provide rhythm guitar interplay that constantly bombards the audience from both sides of the stage; while Ben also hits you with incendiary, gut-wrenching, Blues-based lead guitar.

The rhythm section generates a force capable of knocking down walls, yet with enough control to retain the R’n'B feel of ’70s Aerosmith and Rolling Stones. The band have been clocked at close to 120 decibels in rehearsals, almost earning the Guitar Institute their first ASBO!

This musical force of nature is topped and led by Jamie’s vocals. Switching between a sleazy drawl and a ball-busting scream, the vocals compliment both the Rhythm ‘n’ Blues and Rock elements of the band. Tightly rehearsed vocal harmonies add an extra dimension to the songs, giving the live performances the same depth as the recordings.

The songs have always been written with the live show in mind and the delivery is enough to get anybody’s mouth away from their pint. Four Wheel Drive is made up of a highly “driven” collection of individuals whose lives are designed around the band to make sure it is constantly moving forward. New material is always being written and they can, and do, play any night of the week.

Jamie and Ben’s mutual love of all things Rock ‘N’ Roll make them a well suited writing partnership. Above you will find a taster of the music they’ve written since graduating from The Institute in summer 2007. After finding guitarist Paddy Achtelik at the new Guitar Institute in Kilburn, and introducing extremely talented drummer Will Richards thanks to ACM in Guildford… The Band is ready… It’s Time To Go.

Mercury Prize Nominated Strings-  Windsor

Basquiat Strings at Windsor

Basquiat Strings

Windsor

Basquiat Strings are a five piece string group with their own repertoire of originals (composed by cellist Ben Davis) and arrangements.   Ben finds inspiration from the raucous, driving Hungarian string groups of Transylvania, the luxuriously rich Brahms sextets and the unruly compositions and workshop arrangements of Charles Mingus. Well, all that and people asking him to fix strings for their sessions…

The players have all trained classically yet are “naturally bilingual….wholly imbued with jazz’s improvisational facility.” (Chris Parker)   The group has been involved with various other live projects including that of Juliet Roberts and Andrew McCormack; and has recorded for Ty, Darren Emerson, Monica Vasconcelos (Nois 4) Border Crossing and the Ed Moto produced Jazzinho record.

Basquiat Strings were nominated for the 2007 Mercury Prize for their album “Basquiat Strings with Seb Rochford”…
